Braised Short Ribs

These Braised Short Ribs are cooked with onions and a tomato sauce mixture that produces tender and juicy ribs with a wonderful sauce for mashed potatoes.

Lovely the first day, these Braised Short Ribs mellow overnight and are just as good the next day.

Serve with mashed potatoes (or garlic mashed) and a nice green salad.

Ingredients

  • 2 kg beef short ribs - bone-in
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 onions - chopped
  • 2 tomatoes - diced
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 tbsp molasses
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  • Combine flour, salt, pepper and paprika. Put flour mixture in a plastic bag. Shake the ribs in the bag, two at a time. Brown in oil on all sides in a frying pan. Remove to casserole.
  • Chop the onion into large chunks and place on top of browned ribs.
  • Whisk the tomatoes, barbecue sauce, molasses and cider vinegar together. Pour over the ribs and onions. Cover and bake at 275F (135C) for 3 – 4 hours. Serve with mashed potatoes.
